In Mar.1993, Mr.JIANG Zeming, the CPC Secretary-general and Chairman of the Central Military Committee inscribed the name of this hospital and institute in his own handwriting. It was entitled as the third affiliated hospital of the Second Military Medical University in 1999.

The General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army (PLAGH) was founded in 1953 and was formerly the Second Clinical Medical College Affiliated to the China Union Hospital.
